Southwest Door One

8x10 mixed media on paper. This is an Southwest themed piece which I hope conveys both man made and natural objects. I also wanted to use olive green and orange for a contrast that you might not expect to see. It is important to me, to try to come up with different color combinations and not just use the same predictable ones. Of course, sometimes it doesn't work, but I think it does here. Let me know what you think. I appreciate your comments.

  1. Why is this mixed media when on your other pieces you list the mediums? I always thought mixed media meant a the use of collage materials and I'd like a clarification from one who knows.

As for this piece, it does not say 'southwest' to me but I like it very much. I like your choice of palette for sure. I'm liking all these abstracts you are doing and primarily because your choice of vibrant palette is so interesting.

    Nice to see your work.

  3. Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate them. As far as I know, mixed media can be any combination of materials - paint, paper, pastel, objects, fabric etc. But it doesn't have to be a collage. Pastel and paint are different, so that qualifies as mixed media. Sometimes I use the term mixed media, because some people are looking for mixed media art. It keeps thing interesting!
