About Me

McMinnville, OR, United States
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Southwest Door One

8x10 mixed media on paper. This is an Southwest themed piece which I hope conveys both man made and natural objects. I also wanted to use olive green and orange for a contrast that you might not expect to see. It is important to me, to try to come up with different color combinations and not just use the same predictable ones. Of course, sometimes it doesn't work, but I think it does here. Let me know what you think. I appreciate your comments.

Southwest Rocks One

This is an 8x10 acrylic with pastel and charcoal on paper. This is a Southwest theme abstract landscape which hopefully suggests man made and natural images. I wanted this to be light and airy and to show the brightness of the Southwest.

Bronze Marsh One

This is a 10x14 acrylic with pastel, water soluble pencil and charcoal on paper. I thought the aqua color gave this a nice look instead of blue. I am always trying to use color combinations that are not typical. When you are doing work with more of an abstract feel,  different color combinations are more accepted. It's more of anything goes! Let me know what you think! I really appreciate your comments.

Magenta Marsh

This is a 5x7 acrylic with pastel and charcoal on paper. I used to never use grey in my paintings. Because it was GREY! Then, one day I realized while I was playing around with different color combinations that grey can be an effective backdrop for more brilliant colors. Plus it exists in our environment and even during a grey day, there are points of color and light to be observed as well.

Brown Mountain

10x14 mixed media with watercolor, pastel and  water soluble pencil on paper. This piece has a lot of line and color. I use the red lines to contrast with the blues, purples and brown. Tell me what you think.

Canyon Rocks

This is a  9x7 watercolor with pastel. This is a southwest abstract that suggest petroglyphs as well as natural features. I hope to do more in this style.

Bronze & Chartreuse Three

8x10 watercolor with pastel on paper. I love the brilliant bronze that I can get with pastels! If you want this brilliance, pastels are hard to beat. Give them a try, they are not always soft looking. There are also iridescent pastels to try. I hope you like this look. Let me know.

January Field One

5x7 mixed media on paper. I usually use bright colors - this is more subdued to reflect a winter day.  The bright lavender and pink pastels are able to offer a nice highlight along with the yellow green. I think that they add a lot to this piece. I am trying to use more dark grey and black and then build up interest with these brighter highlights. I also added aqua in the sky for a bit of surprise color.
