Summer Sunrise, abstract landscape by Carol Engles

10 x 14 acrylic and pastel on paper. It has been very hot here the last few days. Nothing like back East, but we have had thunderstorms and more humidity than usual. So, this painting is my impression of a muggy morning.

  1. Very powerful piece. Love the area of yellow!

  2. Thanks Theresa! I thought I 'd try to do some landscapes without line - more emphasis on shapes and blending of the pastels.

  3. Your paintings of abstract landscape art are unreal! I absolutely love the ways that made this into such a moving piece. It's ambiguous nature creates an aura of the unknown that I really like to see in art. Great work Carol!

  4. Thanks Gary! You are so kind! What I try to do with my abstract landscapes is to look to the horizon and add a few distances in between and then add contrast somewhere where you may not expect it. Does that makes sense? Thanks again for your comments.
