About Me

McMinnville, OR, United States
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Futura City Six

10x14 watercolor with pastel, water soluble crayon and charcoal on paper. Wow, I have lots of line in this one! I almost got carried away! Oh well, it was fun! Of all the art I do, this style reminds me the most of what I did as a child.

Yellow Gold and Charcoal

17x23 watercolor with pastel and charcoal. I, once again, can't help myself when it comes to charcoal! I am so intrigued by the line and sketchy quality it produces. I am going to get some larger paper this week. I want to translate this loose, energetic style to a larger size and see what happens!

Chartreuse Hills Two by Carol Engles

8x11 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. This is a companion to a piece I posted last week. I LOVE these colors! For some reason, when I added the mint green and grey/taupe it really came together. These two paintings would look good framed with a modern metal frame - charcoal perhaps. Tell me what you think.

Charcoal Vista Three

I am still enjoying working with charcoal. I am a "scribbler" at heart I guess.
This is a 10x14 watercolor with pastel as well as charcoal.

Yellow Green Cityscape

17x23 mixed media on paper. This piece is really BRIGHT! I could have titled it Tropical Cityscape! I had Caribbean colors in mind. The red is a good contrast I think. I also liked using a bit of brown in this as well.

Chartreuse Hills One

10x14 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. I woke up with this idea! I get my best ideas in the early morning. Inspired by the great artist Calder I guess! I am planning some more of these. They come together very fast. There is another one with these colors that could be a companion for this one.

Futura City Five

10x14 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. Another space abstract that goes well with the others. Once again, I would love to see an institution like the Jet Propulsion Laboratory hang these in their offices! BUT, they probably have all those stunningly beautiful galaxy and star photographs hanging everywhere! I can't compete with those!

Futura City Four

10x14 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. Another "space" painting! These are kind of crazy, huh? My husband keeps trying to see what I am doing with these. He sees objects suspended and "space roads" What do you see? It's a professional secret - I won't tell you what I see! HA!
