About Me

McMinnville, OR, United States
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Summer Playground

5x7 watercolor with pastel. This is light and sketchy. I could do these all day! They are so much fun to do. Almost childlike! Hope you like it. These also make nice larger pieces and I have done several larger ones. They look nice in a kitchen or a child's bedroom with their cheerful colors. Tell me what you think.

Southwestscape Eleven

5x7 acrylic with pastel and charcoal on paper. This is another of my "southwestscapes" inspired by the Temecula Valley where I live. It has been very hot lately and this painting this has a 'hot" feel to it! Tell me what you think!

Black and Red One

17x23 mixed media on paper. This piece has a harder edge, something I usually don't do. But, I have been moved by current world events and I wanted to stretch myself a bit and do something with more social relevance. This is a strong piece that would catch your eye in a minimalist setting. The red and black and are powerful with some dark grey and lavender as well. Of course, this could represent anything - once again the wonder of abstract. It is for our minds to determine it's meaning or subject. Let me know what you think.

Olive Greenscape Two

This is a 5x7 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. This suggests a suburban scene with a house on a hillside? Tell me what you think. I love doing these pieces in a sketchy style. I do them very fast, so I don't lose the freshness and looseness. Does that make sense? The pastel is left on top of the paper with very little if any smudging.

Yellow Tower

17x23 mixed media on paper. This is a powerful painting with lots of line, color, shape and texture. These "cityscapes" are fun to do, but they are also very involved. I need to be well rested to do these! They are like puzzles and as a result all pieces must fit! I want these "cityscapes" to give the feeling of urban energy and excitement - with lots of stuff going on!

Chartreuse and Purple Four

8x10 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. This is really bright! Especially the yellow! Hope you like it! I enjoy using purple and yellow together. They are complimentary colors which are both very powerful. This piece would look good in a room with modern furniture, maybe in a grouping with others that I have done that are similar - or by itself to brighten up a dark corner. Contact me if you're interested in this piece or the others in this series.

Red Field

Mixed media 5x7 on paper. This was done as a more expressionistic piece with bold colors. I think it is important to use different color combinations and stretch yourself a bit.

Blue Bronze Field Two

5x7 watercolor with pastel on paper. Hope you like this! I tried to keep this simple and create a soothing gentle piece. I really enjoy doing these. They also lead to larger works. Contact me if you like this or just leave me a comment. I always appreciate your feedback.

Pink in the City Five

10x14 watercolor with paper. I am having fun doing these pieces with bright green and pink. They are summer colors I think. They are complimented with the sky blue. Hope you like these. Let me know if you're interested. I have 4 others with this theme and plan to do more.

Cobalt Blues Two

8x10 watercolor with pastel on paper. This is a loosely done piece. I did not smudge the pastels, but let them sit on top of the paper. I like to use them in this sketchy style for a more contemporary look. Of course, smudged pastels create a wonderful moody look. They are more versatile than we realize.

Chartreuse and Purple Three

Really bright colors in this one! Pastels are wonderful for creating really vivid color! This painting is a 8x10 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. This would look nice grouped with another of my pieces with this color combination. Let me know if you're interested.
