About Me

McMinnville, OR, United States
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Dark Marsh

This is a 10x14 acrylic with pastel on paper. I used to think that using grey was depressing - and it can be. However, grey is is neutral that can serve as a wonderful background for brighter colors. The small amount of pink and the mint green in this piece make it lively and interesting I think.

Brown & Coral Two

5x7 acrylic and pastel. This one also has iridescent pastels. These are fun to work with and do add a new dimension to the art I think. Sometimes I use watercolor and other times I use acrylic. The advantage of acrylic for me, is that I am able to "scratch off" some of the color to create line which I can't do as easily with watercolor. This piece matches one that I did earlier this month. If you're interested in these or would like a larger version of one of them, let me know. They do make nice larger paintings I think.

Lime Green & Blue

8x10 watercolor with  pastel on paper. Lime green and blue green together can give an impression of a tropical place. They are complimentary colors that are easy to be around. I add the yellow and orange red for contrast and interest.

Early March Morning One

This is a 5x7 with acrylic, pastel and charcoal on paper. I used charcoal to contrast with the subtle colors here. I think this would make a nice larger piece. I am also doing a series of these. If your are interested in this piece or a larger one, let me know.

Yellow Green and Purple Two

Ok, I had to do a companion piece to the one I posted on April 1st. I am intrigued by this color combination and the addition of the charcoal for a sketchy look. I try really hard sometimes to keep a piece simple and not to over work it. I did this piece very quickly and  I think it and it's "companion" have a nice feel to them.

Soft Yellow Green Field

This 5x7 water media with pastel is done with softer colors in honor of Spring. I have decided to do some works in more subtle colors. They can be very peaceful to have around! I think this piece would be especially nice as a larger work.

Violet Field One

5x7 watercolor with pastel. Wow! Lots of violet in this one, along with red, so the colors are strong! This would brighten up a space! Don't you think? These small 5x7's can also be made into large pieces. Let me know if you're interested.

Bright Blue Hills

5x7 watercolor with pastel on paper. I think this piece suggests St. Thomas or Puerto Rico. Or some other island? Sometimes I like to do a piece with a tropical feel. Blues and blue greens are such soothing colors.

Brown & Coral One

This 5x7 acrylic with pastel also has iridescent pastels. I used them on the bluff in the background and in the foreground in peach color and bronze. They are very silky and smooth. I hope to get some more colors! I like them very much. They seem to be best when used as highlights. Let me know what you think. It's hard to see the full effect of their brilliance in a photo though!

Yellow Green & Purple One

Happy April Fool's Day! I thought this color combination would be a surprise! A purple sky instead of  blue! It is lively I think. I also did this in a "sketchy" style with charcoal line. Let me know what you think!
