About Me

McMinnville, OR, United States
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in McMinnville, Oregon. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Wind & Yellow Tulips

This piece is what I call "scribbly".  Lots of swirling lines reminds me of how I enjoyed art as a kid. It's fun to be loose and unworried by perfect shapes and representation. This is pastels and watercolor on paper. Hope you like it!

Vibrant Blue Sky

This is a 5x7 landscape abstract. Once again, I really can't help myself with BLUE! I just love working with this color.  This is more of an ultramarine blue than the prussian blue I used in the previous "Deep Blue Bay" piece.

Brown & Ochre Field

This piece is a landscape abstract with the emphasis on browns.  I was trying to capture a landscape with a variety of browns and related ochre, olive and brick. I also wanted to get a sense of horizon and distance.

Deep Blue Bay

This is a small 5X7 watercolor with pastel.  Blues are so peaceful.  I was thinking of a deep bay of water with a point or bluff in the background.  Prussian blue and ultramarine blue were both used here, as well as indigo.

Red Burst

This piece I'm calling "Red Burst". I use red blocks for a center of focus in a lot of my abstracts. Here I decided to use red "outside the box" (excuse the pun!) and used pink and blue instead.  I am really trying not to rely on the same format each time. I'm currently doing some work with grays, yellows, purples and mint green.  I very rarely use gray, so we'll see what happens! I hope to post them soon.

Blue and Purple

I just can't help working with brilliant blues and purple. Watercolor & pastel can be so vibrant. This work is an 8x10. There are several others on my web site that this would compliment. This piece would look nice with "Red Burst" which is posted here. Hope you like it!

Twilight Two

This is a 5x7 piece related to a larger piece on my website titled "Twilight Blues." This piece will be matted with an  8x10 off-white mat. Contact me at carolengles.artspan.com if you're interested.

Olive Greenscape

JUST FINISHED! This is an abstract which is really a landscape. I love doing these.  I first paint the background in watercolor - the field, the hills or trees in the distance and the sky. Then I add the detail with watercolor crayons and pastels.  I decided to do both the sky and the field in olive green. That's a departure for me.  I am trying to work with different colors.  I added the blue for contrast. I think I will call this  piece "Olive greenscape". SOLD
