Gold Hill
8x10 mixed media on paper. This painting is done in a minimalist style. Not a lot of line or shape. I like the dark foreground contrasted with the lemon yellow and pink sky.

Working Cow Horse
This is a 11 x 14 charcoal drawing on paper. I have so many horse paintings and drawings to do! I am trying to cover lots of different equine sports. This is my first western drawing. I wanted to capture the muscles of the cow horse and the determination it takes to be good at this sport. I also wanted to show the cow looking - well looking, like a cow! HA!
October Pond One
10 x 14 mixed media on paper. I am doing several of these - for the Fall season! I think of Fall colors and Voila! Creating art is a different process for everyone. Some artists plan their work out very carefully, use reference photos or sketches, or work outside and view their subject "en plein air". And then some of us, pull images or ideas out of our head. That is what I have done here. I try to keep them simple and hopefully the simplicity comes through to you. Some days I really don't want to work too hard - I just want to relax with my art!

San Diego Cityscape Four
14x19 watercolor with pastel and charcoal on paper. Lots of blue in this piece! I wanted to depict condos, balconies, street corners and maybe water. Tell me what you see in this!

Neon and Chartreuse Two
14 x 19 water media with pastel on paper. I really like chartreuse or lime green with Prussian Blue and other dark blues. I think this piece would look cool in a room with track lighting overhead. It would pop out in the evening as you light up a room. Let me know what you think.

Galloping Stallion Two
5x7 charcoal on paper. This is another version of a galloping stallion. I have taken the same "pose" and done several versions of it. This is the second of four. Hope you like it. The third one did not turn out that well, so you will probably not see it. I will post the fourth one though! So stay tuned!
Canyon Rocks Eleven
10x14 acrylic with pastel and charcoal on paper. I really like the colors in this one - especially the burnt sienna, violet and yellow ochre. I also like the grey in this. I find that I do more pieces with burnt sienna lately. It must be a phase I am going through! HA!

Top of the Stretch Two
8x10 watercolor with pastel on paper. I love doing these head on views of horse racing. It's fun to add all the bright colors of the jockey's silks. Hope you like it!

Upside Down Willy One
This is one of our dogs, a Norwich Terrier, "Wild Willie". While I am working on my art or on the computer doing my blogging, this is what he does - lays on his back waiting for his next meal, walk or nap.
He has several poses that he assumes - some straight, some crooked. I'll post more. His major attribute or strength is just being cute, though true to his "terrierness" he has killed a rat in the backyard.

Light Blue Canyon
5x7 watercolor with pastel and charcoal. Lots of line and color in this piece. I am not sure this is a canyon either. As I mentioned before, some times I can't think of titles for these! I really don't know what they are!

Chartreuse Field Two
14x19 mixed media on paper. I am asked why some of my paintings have "weird" sizes. I use 140 lb acid free cold press watercolor paper by Strathmore or Canson. The pads come in various sizes. This paper comes in 15x20 and when I border it off with release tape this is the size that I get. You can mat it "tighter " by covering up 1/2 inch off the top and bottom of the painting to make it 14x18 if you want to fit it in a pre-made mat and frame. There is usually room with most of paintings to take some liberties with the image size. On the other hand, if you want to custom frame it, it is up to you how wide you want the mat and/or frame. Anyway, I hope you like these field/marsh paintings. I LOVE doing these. I think they are the most relaxing style I do.

Canyon Rocks Eight
10x14 mixed media on paper. Ok, another canyon painting. I call these canyons because I can't honestly think of anything else to call them! That's the truth! That's the trouble with abstracts - sometimes you don't know what they represent. I don't always have a subject in mind when I do them.

Buckskin Lusitano Stallion
10x14 pastel and charcoal drawing on paper. I really enjoy the Spanish horses - I have three Peruvian horses that are a lot of fun. The Lusitano is a Portuguese breed and is probably the closest relative to the Andalusian of Spain. They are renowned for their athletic ability and courage. They were developed for the bullring and as a war horse. The also come in the buckskin color. Magnificent!

Nevada Vista Four
17x23 mixed media on paper. I think I am more of " drawing, sketching" person. Or maybe I am a scribbler - which is not a bad thing. I love line. I did do a piece the other day without line which I will post soon. I certainly don't want to be one dimensional. But, I get in the mood to scribble and scribble! And the faster the better! HA!
